Coaching Business Makeovers: It's Time for a Change

blog 2.jpg

When is the last time you changed the theme on your website? Changed your headshots? Rewrote your “About” page?

If the answer to any of those is more than a year ago, listen up, because big coaching paychecks require more than a fancy sales page and an email pitch. If you want to attract high-end clients, you have to look and act the part.

Headshots Done Right

We all looked better ten years ago, but that’s no excuse for using old, outdated or—heaven forbid—amateur headshots.

When you’re selling coaching programs that range into the five figures, looking professional is critical, and that starts with great headshots. Hire a photographer who specializes in portraits for speakers and coaches. Expect to spend a few hundred dollars for a selection of high-resolution images you can use in all your marketing materials, including on your website.

Get Your Website Redone

Speaking of websites, if you’re still using the same theme you designed yourself, it’s time for a new look. While you can say that potential clients should not judge you by the way your site looks, they will. A clean, modern website will work wonders to improve your credibility and start attracting the right clients.

While you’re at it, take some time to solicit new testimonials. Don’t just load them all up on a single page though. Take the best ones and add them to your sales page, put them in your email newsletters, and include them in your lead-gen materials as well.

Don’t forget your “About” page, either. This one is hard for most people, so it’s a good idea to have someone else write this, or at least have a writer revise the one you wrote. Remember to include your most recent accomplishments, any awards or accolades, your speaking engagements, and anything else that lets people know you’ve got what it takes to help them grow. Include a few personal details as well, so readers will feel as if they know you just little better for having read it.

Lastly, remember to update your social media profiles as well. LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and others have a long reach, so you want to ensure that no matter where potential clients find you, the information is consistent and professional.

Getting new headshots and making over your website might feel like a waste of time, but the truth is, people do judge a book by its cover, and you often only have a second or two to make an impression. Make sure it’s the best one you can make.

011: 3 Types of Stories to Tell In Your Business

Podcast episode 11

Whether you want to touch a nerve, reach a new audience, or boost your sales, storytelling is the most powerful tool in your arsenal. As humans, we love a good story, and when it resonates with us, it can drive us to take action when nothing else can.

Think about it. Which would you rather read, an interesting story, or a sales letter? Which are you more likely to remember a week from now, a compelling story, or a features and benefits comparison? And which are you more likely to buy, a story you can see yourself in, or a product that does x, y, and z?

If you think back on your most recent purchases, from the business coach you hired to the car you bought last summer, chances are you’ll find a story that resonated with you, and that drove your decision to purchase.

Stories About You

You’ve heard it time and time again: People buy from those they know, like, and trust. And part of getting to know you is hearing your stories. Your potential clients want to know how you came to be in business, what experiences you’ve had that drove your decisions, what lessons you learned along the way.

Your stories don’t have to be directly related to business to be powerful, either. That anecdote about the time you nearly got arrested for not having a valid driver’s license is the perfect lead in to a blog post about better record keeping. Or the story about how you accidentally seated two warring families together at your wedding reception? It’s just what you need to drive home a point about relationship building.

Stories About Your Clients

Otherwise known as social proof, stories about your clients are incredibly useful in your marketing and branding strategy. Testimonials, white papers, case studies and the like are all just stories, after all, and they showcase how you and your products have changed a life or a business for the better.

Stories About Your Products

Yes, even your products have stories to tell. Why did you decide to create that new coaching program? What will it help your clients achieve? Who is it not suited to? These stories and more can show your potential clients more about your products and services than any sales page ever will. When you openly share your thought processes as you were creating your program, buyers will instantly know if it’s a product that will work for them or not.

Clearly, stories have a lot of power when it comes to branding and marketing, but you have to use caution. Beware of the awkward insertion of a story just because you’ve heard it’s good for your marketing. If you find yourself midway through a blog post and you write something like, “but anyway, enough of that, let’s get on with business” and then making a total shift to a completely different subject, chances are the story isn’t working.

But if you can tie your story in naturally to what follows, that’s your golden ticket to better branding, more sales, and a more profitable business. We love stories. Don’t be afraid to tell yours.

Because it literally sets the foundation for everything you're going to create, how you market, and most importantly who you'll market to.

Starting Your Online Business

You've got to get very very clear on who you serve and what you do.

Remember

if you speak to one person you'll reach mean. If you speak to many you'll reach nobody.

007: How to Make Money While You Sleep

podcast007.jpg

What the Heck is a Funnel, Anyway?

For an online business owner, a sales funnel is probably the most important marketing tool you have. And yet many entrepreneurs - both new and established - have no clear understanding of what a funnel is or how it works.

As you can imagine, failing to fully understand this critical part of your business means fewer sales, lower profits, and ultimately, an unstable business.

A Simple Sales Funnel

At its most basic, a sales funnel consists of free content, which typically requires nothing of your readers. Many sales funnels begin with blog posts, YouTube videos, Facebook content, and other information readers can access at no cost. This is the “top” of your funnel.

Next, you’ll have an attractive offer that requires a very small “payment” of sorts - typically an email address. You’ve seen this type of offer on websites all over the internet, and probably even signed up for some. This is the free ebook or guide, video series, checklist, workbook, or other valuable content that is available in exchange for “opting in” to an email list.

Once on your mailing list, you’ll then present your readers with a series of low-cost offers. Perhaps you have a low-priced ebook or a trial membership.

Customers who purchase your low-priced product move further down the funnel, and are presented with more, higher priced products. As they continue to buy, they move closer and closer to your top-end offers, which make up the bottom of your funnel.

 How Your Funnel Works

If you imagine your funnel as looking like, well, a funnel, it’s easy to see that your free content—at the top—is consumed by the largest number of readers. Below that, your extreme low-cost item (available only for the cost of an email address) attracts a smaller subset of the true freebie seekers. Next, your low-priced products bring in yet a smaller group.

Finally, as you near the tip of the funnel, only the loyalest of fans and customers will purchase your highest priced offers.

Your job, as the business owner, is to ensure that your funnel leads buyers naturally from the top, free offers all the way to the bottom. The more buyers you can keep in your funnel, the more money you will make.

Most new—and even established—business owners can easily envision the top of the funnel, but if you truly want your business to grow, you must master the entire process, and that starts with understanding what a funnel really is and how it works.

005: Are You In Need of Some Serious Forgiveness?

005.jpg

Forgiveness. It's one word that many struggle with.

We find it hard to forgive others for the wrong they've done us or the wrong we think they have done. Most importantly we find it hard to forgive ourselves.

How many times have you beat yourself up for the decisions you've made, lack of money, the wrong relationship, not saying yes, or not saying no?

Not forgiving can mean the difference in you living in bliss or staying stuck in old patterns.

In this episode I'm breaking down why forgiveness is so important to designing a live you love.

004: What the Heck is the Facebook Algorithm?

004.jpg

What the Heck is the Facebook Algorithm

Do you find the whole Facebook Algorithm thing utterly confusing?

I know how you feel and it is something that's hard to keep up with since it's always changing.

Facebook’s original News Feed ranking system was based on three elements:

  1. Affinity: how close is the relationship between the user and the content or its source?
  2. Weight: what type of action was taken on the content?
  3. Time Decay: how current is the content—how recently was it posted?

While they still use these three elements there's a lot of other things that go into factor and I'm sharing them with you in the podcast!

002: How to Design Your Life

HeatherFranks_Charlottepersonalbrandingphotos-65.jpg

How to create a life you love

Before I started my business I spent a lot of time day dreaming about having an online business. I knew the only way to live the life I wanted and to make the kind of money I wanted to make I was going to have to create that, I didn’t necessarily know how or what that looked like but I use to sit around and think up thing that I could do or create or businesses that I could join that would give me that freedom.

Just before I made the decision to finally make my dream a reality I wasn’t in a very good place in my life. I was trying to get out of an abusive relationship, I hated my life, I hated my job. I was working as an interior designer and it dawned on me that we as humans can create such amazing things in this life. From art, architecture, jewelry, music,  interiors, clothing then why can’t we create a beautiful life.  You know I was in my late 20’s and I knew that hating my life wasn’t something that I was supposed to be feeling.

I started to do a lot of research and I was determined to make my life better and go after my dreams and about a year later I discovered my coach and coaching and for me the rest was history.

So how can you start to design a life you love?

get really clear on what you want out of life.

I truly believe that what we focus on is what the universe brings us and if you’re going to dwell on everything negative, what you don’t have, the lack of money, or romance and that’s what you talk about, think about, then the universe thinks that’s what you want.

Then you need to start leaning into that and really think about what it would feel like to have those things and start living as if you already have it. That doesn’t mean to go out and start buying think like you’re a millionaire but it’s simply means to start showing upand living that feeling of being a millionaire b/c you unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference and if you’re living in hat feeling then the you’ll have no choice but to move in that direction.

Start moving in the direction of your dreams.

If you want to start a business then just start. The longer you put it off for whatever reason the less likely you are to start. I have spoken to a lot of women who will get on calls with me to discuss this very thing and the next thing I know they tell me they aren’t ready and will start when the time is right. But here’s the thing, there is no right time. You’ll never have the amount of money you need to start, the time, the space, or the energy. No time is a good time so why not just get rid of the excuses and start.

Napoloian Hill who wrote the book Think and Grow Rich spent years researching successful people to find out what the common link was between all rich people and he found that

What all Rich People Know

1- They make decisions

2- They make decisions fast. They don't wait, don't get second opinions, Don't interveiw 5 other coaches to hire, they don't wait for the right time or the perfect amount of money and if it doesnt work out they learn from it and make another decision.

3- Once they start they finish.

It doesn’t have to be a huge life changing event but you can start slow and do what you can and work your way up. When I started Design Your Life I was working full time, and I had two side job on top of starting a business and I would get up at 5 am just to do 2 hours of work before work, go to work, then come home and work. That was my life and I did what was necessary on behalf of my dreams knowing that it wasn’t going to be this way forever.

Even if you can find just an hour a day to spend on starting your business that one hour can make all the difference and once you learn how to automate your business you won’t even have to do that but it doesn’t a little work up front.

Starting a business is hard work and I will be the first to tell you that. I don’t sugar coat anything or make you believe that make 10K a month is going to come easy

But in order to earn more you have to do more.

The last thing I want you to know about designing a life you love is to really sit and think about the calling on your life. Especially if you are wanting to become a coach. If you have the desire to start a business it’s because you’re meant to and nobody else in this world can deliver that business like you can and a big part of having the life you love is realizing your power and your calling and that you absolutely can have everything you want. It’s making the daily decision that your desires are greater than your fear and you’re going to make it happen no matter what.

The interesting thing that I have found is when people decide they want to start a business, and have a better life that it leaks into other areas of their life. They start taking better care of themselves, and looking at their relationships differently and it kind of has this domino effect.

So one thing I want you to ask yourself is in order to have a life you love in every area what type of women do you need to be? How can you start showing up and start being the version of yourself that you want and start showing up as that.
